Canmore Runner … here we go!

Welcome to Canmore Runner.

Canmore Runner is a new blog about trail running in Canmore and the Bow Valley. It’s written by a forty-something, middle of the pack runner who happens to have found himself in the mountain town of Canmore, Alberta, and can’t quite believe his luck.

You see, as trail running destinations go, Canmore is exceptional. If you want long, flat trails with stunning views, there are long flat trails with stunning views. If you want short steep climbs with stunning views, there are short steep climbs with stunning views. If you want to really test your legs and lungs on long, mountainous climbs with stunning views, there are long, mountainous climbs with stunning views. And if you want to race, you can race anything from 10k to ultras. Like I said, it’s really exceptional.

But that’s just the running. Then there’s the town itself – an unassuming, low-key place, dissected by the beautiful Bow River and slightly less beautiful Trans-Canada Highway. It’s a town overlooked by fabulous peaks, with friendly people, including a growing trail running community, and the all important collection of great coffee shops, bakeries, bars, restaurants and outdoor gear shops on and off Main Street.

Again, as trail running destinations go, it’s exceptional. And that’s why I thought i’d start this blog – to showcase Canmore as a “trail running town”; and, overtime, to act as a resource for trail runners living in, or visiting, Canmore.

I hope you enjoy it. More soon.
